Untitled Post (w/ a lot of topics)
It was pretty freaky to find the Blogger homepage in the Filipino language (Tagalog) when I logged in.
I quickly changed the language settings to English.
Don't get me wrong; I love living in the Philippines and everything. English is my first language though so it's easier for me to navigate in.
Anyway, I was just looking through my e-mail when I read this cool article written for Father's Day. Here's a quote:
My Dad and I have always had a good relationship. Up until our trip, though, we never had a great one. We could talk, and we did stuff together, but we never really connected the way I felt we should have. Maybe I'd never stopped to realize how much we really had in common. Whatever the reason, I suddenly felt close to Dad. It was like he was not only my dad, but also my friend...(Read it here.)
I loved it. It made me think about how I act with my parents in general. I mean, I'm really really close to my Mom. We spend meals together going through whatever's happening at my school or her office or wherever, and we love going out.
My Dad's a different story though. I mean, he knows I love him and I know he loves me. We're pretty proud of each other, and we respect each other. But we never spend much time together. We get pretty busy.
Not that what we have now isn't great; it's more than a lot of people have. I guess I'm just reminded that he'd be someone cool to know. I mean, we took the same courses in college, and have occasionally similar habits. We must have a lot in common.
I guess I'll be making more time for him these days.
Anyway, I had a good time with my Mom and her friends last Monday.
We went out for some shopping, dinner, and coffee afterwards. It was pretty loud with everyone pitching in their own thoughts, and just laughing about things. One of my Mom's friends bought her bubbly kid daughter, and it was fun.
So what else? Oh, I can't believe I'm in third year college now!
It's getting pretty cool. Maybe it's because I'm interested in the subjects. But why wouldn't I be interested? Everything's starting to seem more related to whatever work I'll be taking up. I mean, I now have a lab class where we'll be making stuff like wine, tea, and soap!
I'm also working on a new blog design. I know I've only had this one for a short while but I got tired of it. I'll redecorate when I'm done. Anyway, until next time! Hope the post wasn't too long.

And after a week...
I know, I know. A week is too long between updates. I was really going to post something a few days ago, but I haven't even touched a computer in the last four days. As opposed to everyday (which is my normal habit).
Anyway, on to the post! So much to write; so short time to write it in.
First, yes, my Mom came back from Japan. She brought my sister and me lots of edible and inedible goodies. Let's just focus on the edibles, shall we?
They all look and taste quite good.
Moving on, I haven't been around because I've been chasing my schoolbooks. There aren't many Chemical Engineering students where I'm from, so I guess that's why so few of our books are in existence. I got caught in traffic just moving from bookstore to bookstore in the city. At least it's paid off; I have most of my books. Except for that 1986 edition that the powers-that-be have stopped publishing... Sigh.
The malls were having a large sale over the weekend, and I happily shopped. And shopped. And shopped. I got the books I'd been eyeing for months for cheaper prices. So yes, I'm happy.
Dexter, Daphy, and I even went clothes shopping during the midnight sales. Dexter wanted to own a nice shirt, and convinced me to try on a lot of clothes in the process. And Daphy just winded her way to the bookstore.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that's how predictable my sister and I are. It's usually clothes or books.
the three of us having a midnight snack
We were pretty hungry after all that shopping so we stopped at Pancake House for some grub.
Dexter's hamburger steak
Dexter's food looks good to the camera, doesn't it? :) He objected to the lack of rice though so we ordered an extra cup for him.
OK, I don't remember the exact name of this dish. I even thought Daphy had ordered pancakes and was surprised when this arrived. She said it was good.
This is the first steak I've had since I came back from America. It wasn't bad. Maybe not the best, but not the worst either. I'm not sure if they got my order of medium rare right.
Sunday lunch with the family was particularly memorable in that the food was not much good. Or rather, it took a long time to arrive. This is what happens on Father's Day, I guess, when everyone seems to congregate in restaurants.
I took that shot of Jonny inhaling his eighth bowl of soup in an attempt to forget the lack of rice on our menu.
"You look sad," I said from my side of the camera.
"I am sad," he answered.
I guess that's about it. All I got my Father was a nicelooking but lousy keychain with "I LOVE GOLF" emblazoned on it. I really get less and less ideas about what to give him on occasions. He never seems to need anything. Time maybe, but how do you put time in a giftwrapped box?
At least he liked the keychain.

I have been attacked by a fat mosquito.
It entered my room through some sleazy way, and proceeded to bite me eleven times (and counting). And I never get to see it. So here I am with itchy bites and mosquito repellent as my new perfume. Sigh.
On much lighter topics, Allie and I spent today just celebrating the last day before school starts. We ate lunch (I cooked, whoopee), went to the mall, laughed, and just spent lots of time together. It was fun! We're not going to see each other as much as we used to, but oh well. There's always the weekends.
I just thought this blog would enjoy an update. Hm, what else?
Oh, my sister and I have full reign of the house. My parents are out of town (in different countries, mind you) and have been for the last weekend or so. My Mom will be home today though, so that will be cool.
Most people probably make a big deal of not having the parents in the house, but my sister and I are used to it. So life goes on as usual.
I'm getting excited for school. I mean, it's going to be hard and parts of it will be boring. But I'll love learning new things and meeting new people. Yeah, that's seriously the way I think, by the way.
I guess that's about it. No pictures of food or anything today because I didn't think they looked that appetizing (though they did taste good). Bye, everyone!

Last night, I was driving home with my sister when we got to a really busy intersection. And when I say busy, I mean busy. Cars were less than a foot away from each other with real bumper-to-bumper traffic. I was trying to turn left but ended up sort-of zigzagging my way to avoid cars that just wouldn't wait.
Anyway, I stepped on the gas.
"STOP!" My sister scares me enough to abruptly brake while she makes offended noises against the automobile in front of me. Apparently, a taxi decided he couldn't wait for me to get by and almost hits me in the middle of the intersection. Daphne mutters a few choice words while I follow a jeep making a U-turn and get out of his way. With my bumper intact, no less.
Wow. I mean, I've been in a lot of accidents but that was a close call. If Daphne hadn't been there... Just wow. Thank God.
Lots of people are afraid to drive in the Philippines. I can see why.
On other breaking news, if you have two eyes and have visited this blog before, you will notice that my blog design has changed.
I'm finally designing blogs again. Yay!
I put my last skin up in Blogskins for other hapless bloggers like me to use.
Get it from here.
**EDIT: The skin got Skin of the Day on Blogskins! Whoopee! :D
I've also been trying to get back into my knitting. It's been slowgoing though; I still need to review on all the kinds of stitches I've forgotten.
one of my new knitting books
The lovely photos in the book above are tempting me to pick up my needles again. I'm also planning to knit a rabbit for my cousin. I'll just post if anything comes out of my yearning to be creative.
Hm... on another note, our dog, Reese, (see extremely cute photo of dog two posts or so down) has just been back from the vet. He's been really tired lately and now we know why: ear infections. Boo. Oh well, just poured medicine down his throat a few minutes ago. I hope he'll feel better soon.
I guess that's it. I'll be back to work on errands for my Mom now. Bye, everyone!

And I'm home again!
Not that any of you knew I was away since I didn't have time to update about it.
Well, I've just gotten back from a great Youth Camp we've been having in church. We all just realized how much God loves us and how truly indescribable He is to us. We were just reminded that being Christians means having a relationship with God. It's not just going through the motions of church and pretending to be religious.
I've just renewed myself with God, and that's really cool.
I am also drop-dead tired. I'm not sure if there's such a term, but that's how I feel. Sleeping four to five hours a day for the past few days just isn't working for me. I've often been in a daze. But then, it just seems to mean I need my sleep. I've got to keep that particular thought in mind when school starts next week. X)
I have a few pictures from the camp actually, though I was too busy to get a lot of shots.

Angel welcomes you to our room.
Hm... what else? Oh yeah, I just attended a wedding last week. I just felt it was worth mentioning since I got all dolled up for the occasion.
It doesn't happen often.
The wedding and reception were nice, especially since we really knew the couple who were getting married. I don't know how many weddings I've been to where I did not know the bride and groom at all. And I once went to one of those occasions in flipflops. But that's another story.
My uncles and aunts were all there, and we had a really good time. We took a few hilarious pictures, and just had fun. Of course, we also congratulated the married couple.
I've been trying to think up a new blog design but nothing has happened yet. I guess I might be too distracted by everything else I have to do this week:
1) Buy school shoes because my two-year-old ones are completely ruined and caked with seemingly unremovable dirt.Well, that's not everything but it's a pretty good chunk of what I need to do.
2) Renew my driver's license so I can continue (mis)using my freedom as a non-professional driver.
3) Work on some stuff for Mom.
4) Develop photos for my cousins.
5) Knit up some gifts.
6) Clean my study table so that I can actually see the table and not just the junk surrounding it.
7) Give away the old clothes I've cleaned out from my closet.
8) Enroll myself for the next semester.
That's it for now. I'm just so glad I've updated. I'll be banging my head against the wall now in the hopes God will give me a great blog design idea.
