This is me.
Goodbye again :)
1 had an opinion on what I wrote.

I'm in quite a hurry. I want to head to church but I haven't really packed yet. We don't have any class tomorrow so I'm going to Singapore with my Mom! Singapore! :D It tickles me to think I might see some blogskinners there and other people I know without knowing it. I'd e-mail them but there's just no time.

I've got a fever today; it's very bad timing. But I think I slept most of it off.

I guess it's because I haven't been sleeping well the past few days. I've been hanging out late at the neighborhood funeral parlor with my old classmates. The father of one of my old classmates died last week, and we were there to cheer her up and talk about old times.

It's pretty sad to see actually. I mean, my old classmate was studying abroad, and when she got home, he was dead. She cried so hard when she saw his body, and you just don't know what to say to sadness like that.

I pray for her a lot, and her family too. I mean, I don't get why God let her Dad die in a plane crash, but I do know He's still alive and taking care of her. I hope she's comforted.

Anyway, I've got to go now. I'll be in Singapore for the next three or four days with my Mom and Aunt. It's going to be fun! :D

Bye!

9 Weird Things
1 had an opinion on what I wrote.

Whee, a list! I promised Rhaline that I'd do the survey on 9 weird things sometime. It took a while to think up and I was stumped for days. I mean, I've been doing this supposedly weird stuff for my whole life. How will I know what's normal to me is weird to other people? And then, instead of nine, I came up with fifteen.

OK, I hear you: FIFTEEN? It's too long a post to dump on you unsuspecting readers, so I shortened it to nine again.

1) I only drink alcohol with my parents.

People my age usually don't even let their parents know they drink. In my case, only my parents know that I drink. My Dad taught me how because he said he didn't want me to be ignorant (and get taken advantage of by other people).

But we don't get drunk and we only drink on special occasions. So it's not a big deal.

2) I think McDonald's is a 4-star restaurant.
My sister and I don't go to McDonald's together very often, but when we do, it's like fine dining. Maybe because we're easily pleased?

3) I eat at weird times.

OK, so my family eats at weird times and I'm just thrown in the bargain. Basically, I have no breakfast, eat lunch around 1 pm (unless I'm in school), and have dinner at 10 in the evening. I think it's because we wait for my parents to get home from work.

4) I fear rats more than snakes.

I was reading a book in our library once when a rat fell on me from the ceiling. I freaked and ran up the stairs, then freaked even more when I realized we were out of rat traps. I wasn't comfortable for weeks.

Another time, I was sitting in a car with the family when I felt something cold wrap around my leg. I told my Dad to stop the car, then we turned on the light and unraveled my sister's snake from around my leg. He got out of his cage in the back. It didn't faze me at all.

Go ahead, say it. WEIRD.

5) When my sister plays video games, I sit beside her during the major fights and total the damage she's doing on a scientific calculator.

Maybe it's moral support? Sisterly bonding? It's fun!

6) I cry at movies that aren't even remotely tear-jerking.

the Nanny herself

I cried while watching Nanny McPhee, and Cookie won't let me forget it. I cried in a whole bunch of movies that I'm not mentioning specifically, but I think of it as one of my personality quirks. I mean, it doesn't harm anyone when I tear up, does it?

7) When I like a song, I'll listen to it over and over for days until I get sick of it.

This is a good moment to share a video with a song I'm crazy about lately.

I'm getting into country music (this is Martina McBride singing "There You Are"), but I'm also into rock, classical, world, and alternative music.

This particular song is one I've been listening to for about three days. I don't find it annoying though; at least the song stuck in my head is nice. :D

8) I'm slightly obsessive-compulsive.

I arrange books in bookstores in alphabetical order, and I even fold up clothes in boutiques. But it's controllable.

9) I stopped drinking Coke because I was afraid I would get addicted.

nothing against soda companies, of course

I kept thinking "What if I get stuck on a deserted island and still drink a lot of Coke? I'd go crazy without it!" So to make my life easier if ever I get stuck on this deserted island, I stopped drinking. Yes, that was my real reason.

The nine people I have tagged to do this:
No one in particular. I understand how busy everyone is but it would be fun if you guys could try it out. :D

So that's it, ladies and gentlemen. It's a view into the distorted and unique parts of my personality that God made up. God's a really original guy. :)

Oh, and I submitted two blog designs the past few days: my old blue dandelion one, and the one I'm using now. Just check for it in my list of submitted skins here.

Bye, everyone! I'm playing the wedding march for a wedding (Duh, it's not for a funeral...) in a few hours and I've got to prepare.

School, skin requests, yada yada yada
1 had an opinion on what I wrote.

OK, so I've finally gotten around to posting.

As usual, I've been bogged down by schoolwork, real work (finished, thank God), skin requests, and a bunch of other stuff I do outside the internet world.

some cool Chemistry stuff I've been doing in school

I also broke down this week from lack of sleep and extreme busyness. I really need to work on my time management more.

Then there was the food part:

my cooking

I cooked up a pork and broccoli dish from scratch. And I mean scratch. I basically ran left and right while the goodies simmered in the pan, and dumped in whatever looked good to me. So it ended up with a lot of different spices, and even a little wine. Amazingly, it turned out good.

I wish I could cook more but school comes first.

tiramisu gelato

My Mom and I went shopping last Wednesday, and I ended up with a cup of good gelato. At least, I thought it was good. My Mom found it too sweet while I thought it was just fine. She did end up buying two or three pints of other gelato flavors she adored (would you believe there was durian?), and we toted them home for my durian-loving sister.

Plus my parents' 20th wedding anniversary just came and went. My parents were really sweet. They exchanged flowers, cards, and teddy bears, and even went on a date. It would be nice if they did that more often; I think they'd be much happier.

We did show up after their movie date for dinner though.

the porkchop I had at said dinner

OK, so food aside, I finally finished up Stacie's skin request for their class blog. If you've read my tagboard faithfully (which I'm sure no one has unless they were overly curious about my strange life), you'll find her asking me to do it. Anyway, it was one of the hardest skin requests I've done. Seriously.

I mean, she sent me a lot of pictures (of which I ended up using half because I got a headache trying to blend in ALL the pictures) and I spent a long time working on it. All through it, I was just praying "Dear God, give me ideas." or "Dear God, what do you think I should do with this?" And I think He really did help me.

Anyway, here's the final product. At least it's helped me practice my Photoshopping skills.

Speaking of skins, yes, my design is new. I got tired of the old one though I haven't really gotten around to submitting it yet. There was a preview error with it on Blogskins.com that I'm trying to get around. I don't know why it doesn't work.

Anyway, I also caught up (a little little bit) on my reading. I went through Wives & Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell and got really caught up in it. It's a wonderful story on love, family, and other lovely elements I always find in classic novels.

What frustrated me though is that there was no real ending. Not a cliffhanger or anything like that; the author died before she finished the book. I mean, there was an ending which the editor kind-of summarized since he had been told by the author how she was going to finish it. But obviously, there were no real details, no dialogue to moon over, or descriptive words to imagine the setting. And who can blame them actually? She died.

Sigh. I might just buy the DVD.

And after 48 years...
1 had an opinion on what I wrote.

OK, so maybe after a week and a half (that title is one of my cousin's sayings), I have updated! As usual, I got busy working (on blogskin requests and real work), getting used to school again, and spending time (eating) with family and friends. To top it all off, my internet connection fizzled out when I thought of updating my blog.

It was just fixed today so... yeah.

First, school started last week (though it unofficially started today). It's a known secret that teachers and students don't show up in my school the first week class starts. So if we do end up going there, we students just bum around, go out, and pretend that we're going to have class.

what my friends and I were doing instead

what we were also doing

and doing

and doing :D

I actually got in school about the third day because of work and relative laziness. My friends were there earlier and ended up eating out, playing computer games, and doing stuff that weren't extremely academic. Fun, isn't it?

Arn pretending to be part of a mural in Jollibee (fastfood place)

The picture above shows one of the places we were actually in while school was going(?) on.

My sister and I also went shopping for clothes. I think this would bore people though so I shall pass over it for some of the food we've been eating. We went to one of my favorite restaurants last week.

the restaurant

their ceiling decor

their food

Yes, the food was good. I got baby back ribs slathered in hickory barbeque sauce while in the background, you can see my Mother digging into her samurai chicken. I think my sister's food merited a mention though: ostrich skewers.

unusual, maybe?

I don't know if ostrich is all that strange but I know I haven't eaten it in a while. My sister said it was tasty but she got tired of it pretty fast. I enjoyed my dish immensely (as I always do), but for some weird reason, couldn't finish it. I don't know; I haven't been eating as much lately.

Anyway, food aside, I've been reading my Bible every morning these days and it's been helping me a lot. It's wonderful how God's words are somehow just what I need that day.

The other day, I read about how Elijah (a prophet in the Old Testament) raised a boy from the dead for a widow he was staying with. And I felt God just telling me He was consistent. He's said He loves me and has great good plans for me, and I've got to trust that He's still going to follow through when I wonder why He's put me where I am.

I've always thought a lot about why I ended up with a Chemical Engineering course. Or an engineering course, for that matter. I'm not interested in Math, a big thing to engineers. I do like Chemistry, but other than that, I have to make a lot of effort just to get what we're learning. I mean, I studied six hours for every Calculus exam we had last semester. But every time I think of shifting, I really feel I'm where I'm supposed to be. And I guess I am since God has taught me a whole lot since college kicked in.

I'm glad I can just trust God and stop worrying about the rest of my future. Because even if I did plan everything down to the birthdate of each of my supposed children, it wouldn't happen if God had something better. And I know He does have great plans for me and everyone else under His care if we all trusted Him. I do wonder how my story's going to be like.

Anyway, I guess I have to study for my classes tomorrow. At least I've written something here and it's another load off my mind. So God bless and take care, everyone! And to all the Singaporeans, enjoy your vacation!

And yet another survey :D
5 had an opinion on what I wrote.

Allie, Daphy, and me

Look who I spent almost the whole week with! Allie came with us and she didn't go home for almost three days LOL.

Anyway, my escapades aside, I told Jennie I'd do this survey so... here it is. And to Rhaline, if you're reading, I'm still thinking of 9 weird things. I shall post them when I'm finished.

So here's a chance for everyone to know more about me. Whoopee. I'm not sure if that was sarcastic, but here goes... *gets ready to start spitting out information*

As usual, my own irrelevant little comments are in red.

Name: Daisy (but if you're reading my blog, you already knew that)
Birthday: August 18, 1987 (I'll be leaving my teen years soon.)
Hair color: somewhere between black & dark brown
Height: 5'3" (I guess. I haven't checked in a while. Like two years or so.)
Right handed or left handed: left handed (this is where most people ask "What? You're really left handed? Wow.")
Your heritage: Chinese (but I'm a Filipino citizen)
The shoes you wore (are going to wear) today: white flipflops (I did wear strappy heels yesterday. Strappy three inch heels that looked pretty and painful. I'm pretty girly, actually. I can run in heels.)
Your weakness: I don't know. Good food?
Your fears: Fear? I don't know; I've never thought about it.
Would like to achieve this year (by the end of this year): Erm, clean my room. :D (This is where I would like to thank my Mother for being very patient about the mess.)
Your most overused phrase on an instant messenger: I don't use instant messenger anymore. It's too addictive.
Thoughts first waking up: Get up get up get up! (I'm not good at waking up so... yeah.)
Your best physical feature: My skin or my hair maybe. Or my waist? :D (I don't really know. This is what people just say to me.)
Your bedtime: 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3, even 4... It changes often.
Most missed memory: Time spent with my family
Pepsi or coke: water :D
McDonalds or Burger King: I like both but we don't have a Burger King here... (So if I said McDonald's, that would be unfair, wouldn't it?)
Single or group dates: Group, I guess. More fun, less pressure.
Lipton ice tea or nestea: Nestea
Chocolate or vanilla: Are we talking ice cream flavors here? Because I don't like ice cream. *listens to the horrified gasps of a million ice-cream loving humans*
Cappuccino or coffee: I like tea, thank you. (Brown rice tea, earl grey tea, black tea, chinese tea, and green tea are my personal favorites.)
Do you smoke: Nope, don't want to trash my health. (I mean, my smoking grandpa died of lung cancer and never got to see me grow up. What do you think I'd do?)
Do you swear: No.
Do you sing: Yeah. Everyone does, just not as good as others may be.
Do you shower daily: Yeah. (Do you know how hot it is in the Philippines? I know someone who bathes at least 3 times a day.)
Have you been in love: With God, and my parents. Never with a guy. :) (And that means I'm just really busy or really immature.)
Do you want to go to college: I am in college. Everyone goes to college here.
Do you want to get married: Sure, just not right now. When I'm ready. :)
Do you believe in yourself: I believe that God believes in me. (That's not the same thing, is it?)
Do you get motion sickness: No. (I used to but after all the boat, train, bus, car, and plane rides...)
Do you think you are attractive: I don't know. Who thinks of stuff like this? I'm me.
Are you a health freak: Just enough but not freaky. (I will eat vegetables, and abstain from softdrinks and junkfood, but I put my foot down on a vegetarian lifestyle. Unless the family couldn't afford to buy meat, then I'd become a vegetarian. I'm babbling again, am I not?)
Do you get along with your parents: Yup. :) My parents are fun! (And I think all parents are if we try to understand them.)
Do you like thunderstorms: No real feeling either way. (Last week, I stood with the maid outside during a thunderstorm. Our jeans were rolled up so the floodwater wouldn't make us wet, and everytime it thundered, she screamed lol. Just something I remembered.)
Do you play an instrument: Yup. The violin, piano, guitar, and a little keyboard. (But I love my violin best.)
Drank alcohol: Yeah. (But never to get drunk and only with my parents LOL.)
Did you smoke in the previous month?: Nope. (Nor in the previous 19 years I've lived either.)
Were you on drugs in the previous month?: No.
Did you go on a date in the previous month?: Oh yeah. With my Mom and my sister on many different occasions. (I personally think a date doesn't have to be with a guy you're interested in.)
Have you been to the mall in the previous month?: Yes. (Heck, I've been in two today.)
Did you eat a box of oreas in the previous month?: What are those? Do you mean Oreos?
Did you eat sushi in the previous month?: Yup yup :D I love raw fish. (My favorite is salmon but tuna is also good. Not to mention mackerel... *blathers on about food*)
Did you go on stage the previous month?: Yeah, played my violin.
Were you dumped in the previous month?: Nah.
Did you go skinny-dipping the previous month?: Nope. (I didn't even go swimming the previous month.)
Did you steal in the previous month?: No.
Ever been drunk?: No. I know my limits.
Ever been called a tease?: I don't know. ('Cause I've heard some people have done so in the past 19 years, but never to my face. So... what's that? Yes or no?)
Ever been beaten up?:No.
Ever shoplifted?: Nope.
How do you want to die: It won't matter what I want anyway because no one can choose how.
What do you want to be when you grow up?: I'll tell you when I figure it out. (I'll probably become an engineer though.)
Which country would you like to visit?: I've been to lots of places and I still want to see the rest. (In other words, I'd like to go everywhere I've never been. Even Iceland.)
Favourite eye color?: I don't know. (You can't pick and choose for other people anyway unless you chase them with colored contacts.)
Favourite hair color?: It doesn't matter. Anyone can pull off a color that's their personality.
Short or long hair?: Depends on the person and what looks better on them.
Height: Medium or tall. (But no, I do not hate short people.)
Weight: Again, it does not matter.
Best clothing style?: Vintage? But everyone can make a style work for them.
No. of drugs you've taken?: Lots (if we're talking vitamins, cold, fever, and cough medicine)
No. of CDs you have: I've never counted.
No. of tattoes: None. Neither do I want any. (I keep thinking that I might regret the tattoos I'd put in my immature stage when I'm old and grey. Then I'd have to go for removal and that costs a bundle.)
No. of things you did that made you regret: Does anyone count these things?
Your friends to do this quiz: If you feel like doing it, do it. :)

And there it is. My brain output for the day. OK, so I did work and stuff but let's forget that for a while.

I'm going to be pretty busy tomorrow.
Not in school though my friends will get stuff teachers may be giving out. The school doesn't really start classes properly until the second week anyway. I'm trying to finish up what I've been doing this semestral break. I'll blog when I can!

Daisy on 11/06/2006 11:10:00 PM

Fooding, and some other things
0 had an opinion on what I wrote.

I've been too lazy to blog lately. Or rather I've been doing so many other stuff that I couldn't get up the energy to blog about them. That sounds much better, doesn't it?

Well, November 1 & 2 have passed. These are non-working holidays in the Philippines when people flock to cemeteries to visit their dead loved ones and feel appropriately sad. No, that was not sarcastic by the way. We didn't go though. My family usually just reminisces about dead loved ones at home. I mean, they're with God now and only their decaying bodies are left so it won't really matter where we are when we think of them.

So November 1 & 2 gave my sister and I a chance to spend more time with my otherwise workaholic mother. Not that I blame her. I'm working on some of the stuff she can't seem to finish right now (since I don't have any class), and I kind-of understand why she acts the way she does. There's just so much to do.

Anyway, we spent time with my Mom. We've been fooding.

Yup, my preoccupation with food (as seen on this blog) is inherited from my parents.

eating with relatives

same relatives, different restaurant

And my other relatives, of course. We've been hopping from small unknown restaurants to large expensive ones in the past few days. We've had shabu-shabu (refer to my last post to the meaning of this term), seafood, German, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, and even take-out.

The weirdest meal I had the whole week was with my Mom and sister though.

chicken & champagne

Last year, we experienced an extreme lack of food during November 1 & 2 since almost all restaurants were closed. This resulted in us eating canned goods and instant noodles for two days. This year was different because I could have cooked, but I've been working so I guess my Mom didn't want to make me do it. Hence she bought a large amount of take-out from Kentucky Fried Chicken to last us the next few days.

That's how it started actually, but we'd been saving that bottle of bubbly (otherwise known as champagne) for months and this seemed a good as time as any. So we clinked glasses, imbibed on a little alcohol (not enough to get drunk though, we're not alcoholics), and ate so much fried chicken that I still get sick thinking of it.

Of course, the fact that I feel a little sick may also be because I have overeaten tonight. Allie (my cousin's cousin or adopted cousin), my sister, and me went to our favorite Japanese place and ate a lot. Tempura, soba, raw fish, dumplings, more tempura... You get the idea. It wasn't overeating yet though.

We were going home quite satisfied when we spotted my Mom's car near this German restaurant. So we met her there and had (what do you know?) dessert.

my sister watching me take shots of my crepes

We were really full. And I mean, really full. This is why we are still awake. It's hard to get rid of the full feeling.

Anyway, I visited my grandmother a few days ago and got pretty shocked to see one of my childhood paintings on her wall.

more like paint and collages actually

I had given it to her a long time ago and being a loving grandmother, she had kept it. It amused me seeing one of my old paintings. It reminded me how much I loved to paint when I was a kid: watercolors that were almost translucent, and shiny oil paintings of people and objects among other things.

And now? I guess... I lost the habit? At least I still paint on the computer though. Which reminds me of the new skin I just submitted.

download it from here

I feel so glad God allowed me to make something like that. Drawing and painting it took a lot of effort, and I had to look through photos of trees and people to get the shadows right. But it was great. Plus I got to do it on one of my favorite songs.

Even if it doesn't get SOTD (Skin of the Day) on blogskins.com, I'm happy. But of course, if it does get SOTD, then... cool. :D

I submitted another skin a few days ago too.

You can get it from here.

It's a Pac-man skin for a blogskin competition. I enjoyed drawing it, and it reminded me of all the times I used to play that game. I think a lot of people have played it, haven't they?

Anyway, up to here for now. It's time to work again. At least I've updated though so I can get it off my mind. See you, everybody!
