Some things to be happy about

I've got a lot of things to be happy about.

  1. My car looks like a brand-new one. It used to sport numerous scratches, peeling paint, and a bumper that was falling off. My Dad would look at it and laugh insensitively. But while I was away, it was fixed and painted a dreamy kind of blue. It's sort of like blue jeans now. Yippee!
  2. My grades are good enough to avoid summer class. I went over to the department and looked at it on their computer. Hooray!
  3. My relatives from Manila and Bulacan are here! :)
  4. Jesus is alive! OK, so he's alive everyday, but I couldn't help but add that. It's always something to be happy about.

Oh yeah, my sister just had surgery on her teeth last Friday, with sedation and everything. Her face is a little puffed up (not as big as mine was when I went through that :D), but she's fine. While the surgery was going on, I couldn't watch. Not because of the blood or anything, but everytime they stuck something in Daphne's mouth --- be it injection or some other dental tool --- her whole lower body would jerk involuntarily. *shudder*

On other breaking news, my other friend, Angel had surgery on her teeth last Friday too. (Is this a coincidence or is this a coincidence? It is, by the way.) She had it worse though: more teeth to remove and the effects of general anesthesia to handle. I'm glad we've all got it over with... Of course, my other friends may endure the same thing soon; I have no idea.

The pains of cosmetic surgery!

I'M BACK!

Hello!

I finally found the time to post about the little inconsequential details of my life. I've been travelling lately; I attended a conference in Baguio, and zipped around Manila & Laguna in the process.

It was fun! But about the conference first...

The conference was about church revival and living for Jesus. Now, I've been a Christian for a long time, but this conference that seemingly rehashed the basics put a whole new perspective on my Christian life. It reminded me that my purpose in life isn't my studies, work, my family, or whatever. It's all about living for Jesus, and preparing myself for being with Him. As the speaker said: "This world is not my home; I'm just passing through." Very true, how easily we forget.

Of course, during free time, we enjoyed Baguio. This is the summer capital of the Philippines, after all. I agree with that nickname for Baguio; I mean, it was holy week and there were loads of people everywhere!

We went boating (see rowing brothers and laughing passenger Angel above), buying pasalubong (gifts for people back home for the un-Filipino reader), enjoying the scenery, and taking great pictures.

It was all fun, whether we were in Baguio, Caloocan, Makati, or Pagsanjan Falls. I got closer with some old friends, and made a lot of new ones from other places. And of course, we all got to know the Lord better. Amen to that... :)

Quizzing myself
0 had an opinion on what I wrote.

Lately, I keep popping into people's blogs with answers to quizzes plastered all over them, and I felt like getting into the bandwagon.

This was spot-on:

You Belong in London

A little old fashioned, and a little modern.
A little traditional, and a little bit punk rock.
A unique woman like you needs a city that offers everything.
No wonder you and London will get along so well.
What City Do You Belong In?

This one, unfortunately, just made me crack up...

You've Got Guys Lined Up Around the Block

While your little black book isn't as thick as Paris Hilton's...
You get the most dates of any girl you know
It's your whole five star package that attracts men -
Your looks, your charm, and your ability tie a cherry with your tongue.
Are You Attractive?

How does one tie a cherry with one's tongue? The most dates? LOL.

I'm bonding...

...with parents, I mean.

Not very often done by uni(versity) students, I hear.

Last night, my mother and I (and my sister who zipped past the TV occasionally while stealing grapes and using the bathroom) watched the first half of "North & South", a BBC adaptation of a really good book. She liked it. I liked it. We sat beside each other wrapped in our own blankets, and enjoying the show.

It's about love, and the whole master-worker-union deal with strikes and death... It's really good, one of my favorites. My dad might even like it (which is usually doubtful being the action man that he is) if he could sit still for four hours. :)

We're watching the second half tonight.

We slept about 1 am, then I got up to accompany my dad while he exercised. I woke him up at 6:30 and we headed to the golf course for a brisk walk past nine holes. We were dripping with sweat when we got back, and he played a round of badminton with my mother (while I cheered). We then had breakfast: me with my spam, fried egg, and delicious garlic rice, and dad with toasted bread, orange marmalade, and some of my spam.

*OK, so the food is prominently described, but bear with me. That's the way I am; I'm fixated.*

All in all, when you understand them... Parents are fun. ^_^ (I think I would have choked on those words a few years ago, but oh well... Being a teenager's weird...)

A fantabulous birthday :)

My Dad's, I mean.

For his birthday yesterday, we ended up having the priciest meal I think I've ever had in the Philippines.

It was a spontaneous thing, actually. On my father's whim (which was especially catered to for obvious reasons), we cancelled a reservation in another restaurant to try out this seaside place someone he knew owned. I was pretty bummed at first; I'd been looking forward to dinner in that other place.

But the food here was also delicious. My dad called about a reservation, and we ended up getting a meal tailor-made for us! I mean, it was something else to get a special menu with the words "specially prepared for (dad's name) & guests". Who would have thought it?

Two of my dad's friends showed up in the middle of the meal and brought a lot of laughs with them. We enjoyed the red and white wine, and the coffee (or tea, in my case). It was pretty pricey, but it was worth it. "We don't want to be ignorant about these things" or so my dad says.

Either way, he enjoyed his birthday and had loads of fun. So did we, in fact.

It just goes to show that the best-laid plans aren't always best kept.
